Solgate is a research-driven biopharmaceutical startup that develops drugs targeting solute carrier (SLC) proteins, the largest family of membrane transporters. By modulating the function of the “gates” to cellular metabolism, Solgate aims to address unmet medical needs in immunology- and metabolism-based disorders. Solgate is located in the newly established xistaPark, a space housing a growing community of technology startups and biotech companies, adjacent to IST Austria in Klosterneuburg, near Vienna.

Solgate is seeking to hire a motivated Lab Technician (part-time) to join our interdisciplinary research team. Together, you will take part in supporting the development of novel small molecule therapeutics that modulate the functions of membrane transporters. The position is part of a team of scientists working together at the interface of functional genomics, molecular biology, chemistry, and advanced computational methodology.

Role and Responsibilities

• Support multidisciplinary research projects focused on the discovery and development of small molecule modulators of membrane transporters
• Prepare reagents, buffers, media, and laboratory consumables for experimental work
• Maintain laboratory infrastructure, including autoclaving, waste management, and equipment cleaning/calibration
• Maintain laboratory inventories and stocks of consumables, receive deliveries, and coordinate the ordering of laboratory supplies
• Ensure laboratory organization and compliance with safety regulations and standard operating procedures (SOPs)
• Accurately document laboratory activities, inventories, and maintenance records
• Contribute to a collaborative, efficient, and well-organized research environment

To accomplish the responsibilities of this role, the candidate must demonstrate excellent interpersonal, organization, and communication skills.

Qualifications

• Hands-on experience in an academic or industrial biology, biochemistry, or chemistry laboratory (i.e., this can be from either your first/second year of university studies or from work experience)
• Excellent organizational skills with strong attention to detail and the ability to manage multiple tasks simultaneously
• Proactive, reliable, and able to work independently while contributing effectively within an interdisciplinary team
• Strong communication and interpersonal skills
• Fluency in English (written and spoken); working knowledge of German is considered an advantage
• Comfortable working in a dynamic startup environment where priorities may evolve rapidly.

This position is suitable for students seeking part-time work during their studies, recent graduates, and experienced lab technicians or candidates with relevant laboratory experience. However, please note that this position is not suitable for students seeking a summer internship or a position for a Master’s thesis.
